AMD Virtualization System Compatibility Check Utility

This post discusses the AMD utility to determine whether your computer and processor is capable of virtualization. Please follow the links at the foot of this post for more details and where to download the utility.

I have downloaded and evaluated the utility and these are my findings.

The AMD Utility:

AMD Virtualization™ Technology and Microsoft® Hyper-V™ System Compatibility Check Utility

Release Date 8/21/2009

However, when I disable Secure Virtual Machine (SVM) in system BIOS and re-run the check:

The text on the above report is not only wrong - it is also confusing!
This utility detected that a necessary BIOS patch in not installed -- WRONG!
Please contact your system vendor to determine whether a BIOS upgrade is available - this was NOT NECESSARY! (the computer that this utility was run has a processor that supports AMD-V) - you will get the same message even if your computer does not!
AMD's most current processors do not require a BIOS patch to run Hyper-V --- True I have two of them!
This utility detected that AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) Technology is not enabled in BIOS. --- again true, but doesn't this over-ride the first two messages?

For a utility that AMD that was released in August 2009 you would think that they would like to keep their customers better informed?
