GWM - Googling While Muslim

I came across this concept while reading "Home Fire" by Kamila Shamsie.

It raises a whole lot of questions regarding data protection and surveillance techniques.

The act of looking up something, using Google or any other of the search engines, could trigger interest in you. The fact that you are also of a particular religious affiliation would also trigger that interest.

While I have no doubt that there are those that may be "on the radar" of the authorities for being associated with a particular group, as far as I know Google has no way of determining your political or religious beliefs. What you are looking for may indicate your leanings but a search in itself cannot correlate these factors.
